DIRTY FINGERNAILS
How tolerant are you about dirt under your fingernails? Mildly? Or is it totally unacceptable?
Interestingly, I have observed that some people can have dirty fingernails and it doesn't seem to bother them at all. In fact, I've often wondered, "What in the world have those hands have been doing!"
Don't you just love it when your food server puts the plate on the table and you notice their dirty fingernails? YUK!!
My theory is that dirty fingernails signify poor personal hygiene. Even if you work in a filthy job that requires you to handle dirty objects your hygienic habits will kick in at the washbasin.
Fingernail dirt is a little like sin. We tolerate it at our comfort level. If our nails are only slightly dirty (little sin) we may not be too concerned.
Of course, sin is NOT truly like fingernail dirt because it can't merely be washed or scraped away. My point is that our level of tolerance is significantly important. We must see filth (sin) for what it is and refuse to be tolerant of it to any degree.
Our willingness to remain a little dirty (sinful), when we can be clean, is indicative of a much deeper problem. Whereas personal hygiene is important for good health, spiritual hygiene is vital for eternal life.
I pray the Lord blesses you today. Warmly, in His love and life, Roland Scroggins © 2006
