UNFULFILLED PURPOSE

Janet and I like to enjoy a bowl of popcorn in the evening before turning in for the night. (We buy the 98% fat free kind in order to accommodate our weight loss effort.) It's a nice little snack that seems to satisfy our desire for munchies.
Tonight, I reached the bottom of my popcorn bowl and noticed about five or six kernels of corn that had not popped. It's not the first time I've seen un-popped corn but this time they seemed to get my attention in a strange sort of way.
Unfulfilled purpose! That's what I thought as I looked at the lonely un-popped kernels. They are now worthless and will be discarded in the trashcan.
Believe it or not, this spoke a life lesson to me. Unfulfilled purpose. Can this be said about me – about you?
I know this little example pales in comparison to the purposes God has intended for us. After all, we aren't kernels of corn! We are living human beings, which can change and redirect our life with the Lord's help. But, the point begs an answer.
Are we living our lives as He planned? Or, has something happened to change our nature so His purpose is thwarted? The popcorn kernels probably lacked sufficient moisture and were thereby foiled from achieving their highest purpose. They were helpless to change their situation.
We aren't!! I pray the Lord blesses you today. Warmly, in His love and life, Roland Scroggins © 2006
